Yes, or rather, move it back to /dist/dev/ so it goes away on our
download CDN, then move it back to /dist/release/ once the vote has
finalized. That way we get to keep a paper trail of this transaction.

I would be inclined to start a VOTE now and if there are no serious
issues just leave things as they are. If blocking issues are found I
guess we will have to remove the release from the ASF infrastructure
and see what can be done with the respective maven artifacts in
central.
