IMHO, expected: no.
I would expect the PMC to ask their mentors whether they want to stick
around (common courtesy). If a mentor was involved in more than just
steering the project through incubation, I would assume that they will be on
the PMC anyway, otherwise it should be fine to either politely decline or
(if the PMC and the mentor are interested) stick around for a few more
months to offer guidance post-graduation. Once a project is comfortable
standing on their own feet, a mentor that just stuck around should just
quietly vanish.
Also, sometimes it is preferable for the new project that a few mentors
stick around because they tend to be members while new projects often don't
have enough members otherwise (remember, that it is one of the exit
responsibilities of mentors to identify potential member candidates and
propose them).
Personally, I would consider it strange if a project that I helped mentoring
would not ask me whether I want to stick around after graduation. :-)
