I realize you're joking but...
No makefiles would not play very nice in gump if combined with Java.  We
wouldn't like a project to take 5 hours to build.  There would have to be a
technical issue to gump integration that they'd need to resolve.

(C guys: Java compiler takes a long time to start up and wasn't designed to
launch a new process for each source file)
