The one reason, that drove me to do my own versions: Shipped symbols have no default footprints attached. I don't want to remember my preferred footprint for each and every component. In some cases I was missing features -- Opamps with power pins detached in a special symbol. Title blocks with date, name and other attributes showing in the box. A little mark on one side of resistors and caps, so I know where to put my oscilloscope probe.
