Hi Kurt,

You'll want something like:

cd nczarr_v2.zarr
zip -r ../nczarr_v2.zarr.zip .
gdalinfo /vsizip/../nczarr_v2.zarr.zip

Note that tar makes TAR, not ZIP, archives.
