It's an error to blame the steering committee for the ugliness of
gcc's optimization passes.  The steering committee was created in
1998.  gcc has been under development since 1987.  I think that gcc
has been, on average, improving in recent years.

I hope that you will help us make gcc better, or at least provide
useful feedback.
