Hi!

Has there been any contribution from HP at all on itanium specific
optimizations? I am referring to instruction scheduling and stuff at
that level.

Please, ask Steve Ellcey [EMAIL PROTECTED] about this. He is most active developer of GCC from HP.

Our interfaces are derived largely from stanford (SUIF) -but if I had
to contribute, I can contribute to the existing environment. It is a
question of whether the gcc team needs optimizations and/or someone else
from HP is already contributing towards that (and of course whether HP's
policy allows for me to controbute).
I think you should have figured out about HP policy first and do some legal paper work with FSF. Also I thnk contribution means maintaince too.

Sorry, I don't understand question about gcc team needs optimizations. Many gcc developers are busy and not really interesting in Itanium (which is a niche platform). But there are a lof of GCC users which are interesting in better Itanium GCC. For example, as I rember about 70% of Gelato members would prefer to use gcc on Itanium than other compiler. Gcc Itanium performance is far behind Intel compiler and it needs to be improved.
