tree-ssa-forwprop:eliminate_unncessary_casts approach is considered not appropriate for mainline (because tree-combiner will take care of it.) so I do not plan to merge it to mainline. I discussed this with tree-ssa folks when we were chasing gzip performance. They preferred to wait for tree-combiner instead of gaining gzip performance improvement using this short term approach. - Devang
