Shutting down the mainline to get folks to focus on 4.1 is a step I'd prefer not to take; I'm hopeful that the 4.1 P1s will get the attention they deserve. However, I am concerned about instability on mainline. If someone will put together the meta-bug, I'll consider the request to slush mainline. In the absence of that, I'd certainly ask that we hold off on additional major merges until the consensus is that things have been reasonably stabililized. I do agree that we tend to let serious regressions sit for far too long. It's true that Stage 1 is for major changes, and that those will inevitably introduce problems, but we should not treat that as an excuse to ignore regressions introduced at that point until our backs are against the wall right before a release. -- Mark Mitchell CodeSourcery [EMAIL PROTECTED] (650) 331-3385 x713
