MRS and Eric Botcazou objected strongly against not being able to build a 1-stage GCC with --disable-bootstrap. And that's never going to happen.
I tend to like long term stability in who things are done, but I'm not stuck in the mud, the point of my email was to reassure someone that in fact a 1-stage build will never go away, exactly how one achieves that I don't care as much about, only that it be possible. I have two trees (actually 83 trees to be precise, but whose counting), one that only bootstraps and one that never bootstraps, so I am fine with it being a configure option.
