We opened an internal issue at CollabNet to look into this, and found
that we don't have an open relay.

Luke's mail doesn't give any technical details. It just says spam was
"going via collab.net" and that our server "has been utilised to forge
messages from openoffice.org", which could mean just about anything.
Just because the string "collab.net" appears somewhere in the headers
of a message doesn't mean that CollabNet servers actually had anything
to do with it :-). That's the nature of an unauthenticated system.

Here's how one of our sysadmins closed the issue:

 | If we really had an open spam relay -- which we don't -- we would
 | be getting a LOT of complaints. I'm 99.44% sure that the message
 | he's referring to is sent to a [EMAIL PROTECTED] account,
 | where [EMAIL PROTECTED] forwards to somewhere else. Either
 | that, or someone just put "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" as the return
 | address on a spam they sent. Both of these are much different than
 | saying that the server was used to forge messages.
 |
 | It's quite possible that this person's message got deleted as spam,
 | but I don't have postmaster@ email going back that far. Regardless
 | I wouldn't give this much thought, since it's an isolated
 | incident. We'd like to be able to please all of the people all of
 | the time, but that isn't possible.
 |
 | I would refer him to: http://gcc.gnu.org/lists.html and
 | http://gcc.gnu.org/spam.html. In particular "While we wish [spam
 | to the mailing lists] would not happen, it is a fact of life on an
 | open list (we do not want to run a list where only members can
 | post)" and "We have a strong policy of not editing the web
 | archives."

Best,
