No question about that, the issue is whether type Integer can or cannot be 16 bits. As I said before, I suspect that making Integer 16 bits, while certainly possible, would not be easy, and you would find numerous issues to be fixed in the run time. Of course if you write bare bones programs not using the run time things should be much easier.
