After reviewing the entire dependencies to get this enabled by default, our current plan is as follows: 1. Send a v2 (there still were outstanding comments against some testcases) of the "turn on by default for -O2" patch. 2. Address PR118873, PR119862, and PR119884 before merging the patch that turns this on by default — we consider these three blockers.
While we just sent the v2 patch for enabling this by default (hoping that we addressed all comments), PR118873 will keep us busy until the end of the week, and PR119884 is likely to not drop until sometime next week. So optimistically, and assuming that there is sufficient reviewer bandwidth, we could land the "enabled by default" on trunk towards the end of next week.
