Some of the patches could be merged in master as-is.  However, some of them are
clearly quick hacks to get it to work somehow right now and get the overall
picture of the problem, like Kaz said himself before.

For some of the issues the actual reason should be investigated first. 
Otherwise this "we will fix it later" will never happen and we'll have an even
bigger mess of hacks to maintain further down the line -- like with some of the
> 20 year old issues in the backend.
