If you want to act like a maintainer, then I'd suggest you submit patches,
and once you get approval, commit them, it's trivial after all, as you said.

The issue here is that you're trying to mix compilers from different origins,
and it's true that under mingw, things are complex, because of
incompatibilities
between mingw version.

Otherwise, using FSF GCC 3.4, 4.0 or 4.1 will work just fine to bootstrap
GCC 4.2.
