Hi Dark,
Slot machines or fruit machines in the rest of the world are usually played
to win real money.
In the US they sell hand held electronic versions that are usually not
accessible and even old mechanical machines where you need to deposit coins
to try to win the jackpot of all the money in the machine.
Some people at a party use slot machine video games and even Jim Kitchens
slot machine to really gamble, using pennies instead of dollars for each
spin.
One person has a bucket of 100 pennies and to play you hand that person a
penny. Then you spin and if you win the banker gives you the number of
pennies you won or if you lose you get nothing.
It is a fun party game if you have over two people playing.
Like you said it takes no skill and just pure luck to play.
Phil

Subject: [Audyssey] Mary anne's Slot machines question

Hi mary anne.

I thought it best to answer this on list sinse then we can have other
people's in put, and there really is little reason to discuss this
privately.

Jim kitchin on www.kitchinsincc.net probably has the closest thing to a
pure slot machine in his casino game, which also has craps and blackjack.
As they are totally random and don't really have any control on the part
of a player, it'd be a little pointless someone making a stand alone slot
machine game, but Slot machine have also however featured in many other
games, some online brouser games such as Kingdom of Loathing, torn city
and muelsfel rise of the golems (see the audiogames.net db for details),
have slots as part of the games where you can play and win in game money.

Probably the best slot machine adaptation is in the action/adventure game
grizly gulch from bavisoft, though again it's only one part of a larger
game, and really doesn't serve too much purpose.

However sinse tere is no legal way to get hold of grizly gulch anymore as
bavisoft are just about dead that probably doesn't help.

So Jim's game is probably your best bet, ---- though I'm afraid to be
honest I'm a little confused as to why your looking for a slot machine,
sinse essentially it's a random choice that the player has no ability to
control the outcome, which can make for a rather frustrating game.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.
