I'm in the process of building a machine room for work stuff. Several neighbors hate it, but what they hate is a legal building envelope. If I had to persuade them to like it, I couldn't have it. Although the city takes their pound of flesh (building permits, inspection fees, taxes), they have rules. I would much rather endure city governance, than my neighbors'. One of these neighbors is an anti-vaxxer and complains about conspiracies of Fauci, etc. (Another reason to be glad there are building standoffs is for when he gets sick. Get off my lawn!)
