“High information” people ignore evidence if it conflicts with their preferred narrative all the time.
Sometimes evidence is wrong or misinterpreted – sometimes a theory is needed to put evidence into context. That’s not ignoring evidence, that’s seeking even more information and a better framework to understand it. Of course, I can just respond to an assertion with another.. And that there could be a backlash to internationalization doesn’t mean it is rational, just that someone seeking to advance an open economy should have been aware it was a political risk and prepared better to avoid it.
