Hi Dorian

if you want to avoid overlap you might need to cobble together a procedure yourself - probably converting the annots to labels then removing the overlap and recombining into an annot. It wouldn't be that hard to do in matlab.

For you second question you are probably best off drawing the label you want on fsaverage, then mapping it to each of your subjects using mri_label2label

cheers

Thank you Bruce and Douglas,
I meant to combine them because I did not want overlaps.

Can I advance one more question as we are here. How can I get an average
thickness of the entire
lateral temporal lobe (inferior, medial, temporal gyri)? The average of the
three gyri may not be
useful as one gyrus may be bigger and should be counted accordingly in the
average thickness of the
entire lateral part.

Thank you.

Not by default, bu you can create one easily enough with

cd $SUBJECTS_DIR/subject
mri_aparc2aseg --s subject --labelwm --hypo-as-wm --rip-unknown
--volmask --o mri/wmparc.a2009s.mgz --a2009s --ctxseg aparc.a2009s+aseg.mgz
