Surface-based and morphometric are basically the same (and have to be 
selected together). Volume-based and functional have not been 
implemented yet and do nothing.

10 is the default and is usually what I use. This is somewhat arbitrary. 
There is no known way to select an optimal smoothing level. I don't 
understand your question about ROIs
