Thank you Martin, you were correct, my Freesurfer was not installed in that directory, but I managed to uninstall it...now I have to reinstall. But I'm wondering how I'm going to avoid the same problems I faced when installing it before. Are there any tips you (or anyone) can give to help me with this? I'd be extremely grateful.

If you had freesurfer correctly installed before, you must have had the $FREESURFER_HOME variable set correctly. Thus the command above should remove, if you have sufficent permissions. To check whether the command was effective you could try ls $FREESURFER_HOME If there are no file listed, you have successfully removed it. Hope this helps.
