Alex, On our Mac Leopard Intel and PowerPC test platforms, qdec as found in freesurfer v4.0.3 works.
Are you running qdec directly from the terminal? Or via ssh? If through ssh, be sure to include the -Y flag to ssh when connecting. What kind of machine do you have? Intel or PowerPC? What kind of video card? Also, be sure you have all the latest Software Updates from Apple, as they have put-out a number of important fixes to the X-Windows sub-base.
