Ok... You can use FC to check if they are the same, eg FC <file1> <file2> > Then, "Bad or missing,,,,,C:\FredDOS,,,,". No Shell. Well, if that is the right path (eg your drive is in fact C: and not D: or E:) then it sounds like that file is corrupt. But you can very easily check if there is a problem with either COMMAND.COM, by deleting/moving FDAUTO.BAT and FDCONFIG.SYS and putting the COMMAND.COM at the top level. And if there is a problem, get another copy somewhere.
