I have the same Compaq laptop, but sadly is not working anymore, but looking
the motherboard it has 2 chips for pcmcia, the VLSI VL82C146, a quick google
search shows me that the AST ASCENTIA 900N uses the same chip, here more details

Hope it helps

hope I'm using this channel in the right way, first time :-)
I'm trying to setup an Compaq Elite LTE Laptop (486-DX2-75, 16MB) with Freedos
and everything is working great after some time, even got WIN3.1 running in
standard mode on top.
What I really would like to have is a CF Card via PCMCIA adapter acting as
additional hard disk, or even 2, I have two PCMCIA slots.
This is working with Windows 95, so the hardware is not the problem.
But whatever I try, I don't get this running for Freedos (can't try within Win
3.1 as for example cardsoft requires extended mode for that).
Really tried a lot - actually cardsoft is kind of working to a certain extent,
so it beeps when connecting the card, but cardinfo.exe is giving back only
???.Also atainit is stopping with error.
I'm trying cardsoft 3.1 can't find a higher version.Any hint what I'm doing
wrong here would be super helpful, thanks for reading !
Best RegardsMarkus
