I'd recommend QEMU for running FreeDOS on Raspberry Pi (RPI).  Personally,
I prefer it for x86 too.

I run multiple qemu-based x86 FreeDOS nodes (sometimes 6 or more) on a
single RPI-4 with plenty of CPU cycles to spare. Using APM aware software
in FreeDOS (like FDAPM) really helps with CPU usage, otherwise DOS will
consume 100% of a single CPU core (it doesn't know any better).
