Accidentally replied to Eric instead of the whole list, my apologies to him that he's receiving it twice:

I'll note that DOSBIAN violates the GPL on DOSBox, and probably on Raspbian, too (I don't see stated anywhere that he's using Raspbian as a base, but it's almost certain that he is, given the name and platform).

The developer asserts, falsely, that "Dosbian doesn’t contains any copyrighted material." (Untrue, DOSBox and Raspbian are copyrighted works licensed under the GPL).

He then has:

"Terms of use and distribution
Dosbian is a donationware project, this means you can modify, improve, customise it as you like for your own use.

IT IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED:

USE DOSBIAN FOR COMMERCIAL PURPOSES.
DIFFUSE YOUR OWN CUSTOMIZED COPY OF DOSBIAN."

Locking the download behind a donation doesn't actually violate the GPL, but restricting commercial use or distribution of modified works does.

That doesn't mean anything for users, due to the nature of the GPL, but it does mean that the developer is not himself legally in the clear.
