I haven't tried that newer VBox. It only came out a week ago,
apparently. So maybe they still have some bugs to fix. I hope this is
not a permanent regression!

Where did you find that one? And does it have (libre) sources? Sadly,
we're very poor regarding number of available (working) packet
drivers.

Try using the NE2000 packet driver instead. That one at least (also)
worked in older QEMU versions. But I would still strongly hope that
VBox would eventually fix their "bug".
