What compatiblity exactly are you talking about? FreeDOS to hardware,
existing DOS-programs to FreeDOS or both?
Software: DOS 6.22 compatiblity is given, though someone can't say for
sure that a program, which has not been tested, will 100% work.
Hardware: I am experiencing some crashes/strange behaviour on some
hardware configurations. Exotic stuff like a Commodore 386 I am playing
right now with or newer hardware.
I had only 2 or 3 hardware configurations with problems with FreeDOS out
of at least 20 systems on which I have used and booted with FreeDOS.
Apart from these I would consider FreeDOS as a fully-working
replacement/enhancement to MS-DOS 6.22.
Just try it with the software you want to run in a VM with FreeDOS.
After this install FreeDOS on the desired hardware. If both goes well,
there should be no point against FreeDOS.
