Oh it would nice to not have to use a menu and just have the memory
conflagration that works for me for most cases. I can comment things out
or boot with "F8" to disable things if I don't want them.

That is correct, I need to re-install them since I accidentally
deleted one of them. They where also not loading correctly at the time
I wrote this.(I am now trying "high" and maybe will try just "device".
II am not currently using my PCMCA slots but might be in the future. I
do have an Ethernet card but I don't know that it is supported in dos
or base Windows 3.1.

yes, absolutely. SMARTDRV beats all FreeDOS caches by a long shot.

I have found out since posting this that the "/X" option is not
supported in my version of SMARTDRV. It is running now.

don't try to use WIN on FreeDOS; keep your working MSDOS.
So you use DOS only for Windows? Interesting. You
may want to check out the HXRT extender which can
run basic Windows software without needing Windows.
AFAIK HXRT will run WinNT command line .PE executables; not WIn 3.1
executables.
HXRT is not a WIN 3.1 replacement

You are correct Tom, I have tried it. Windows is something I want to
use at this time. I quit to dos to run dos programs though.
Also the other things are sound drivers. The Cystal one is my sound
card and it loads a fake sound blaster pro into memory. Dos and
Windows can then use that to play audio. Windows can't nativly use the
sound card in 286 mode and FreeDos can not be easily configured to run
in 386 mode.(all my attempts have failed).
There is another sound blaster pro driver which I think Windows needs
to operate the fake Sound Blaster Pro.
Even with these not loaded HwInfo(and info utility) gives me out of
memory errors.
