no, FreeDOS does not automatically try to analyze and optimize UMB usage with tools similar to MS DOS "memmaker". However, most FreeDOS drivers use less memory than the old MS DOS drivers anyway, so you should have enough free in your low 640k. Please give more details about your memory issue. For example, try this: MEM /debug /full > usage.txt ... and then paste the contents of usage.txt in a mail where you explain which memory areas and drivers need improvement on your PC.
