Thanks for your offer, but I managed to reproduce the various problems 
easily on a small vbox FreeDOS install, so I should have enough to 
investigate :)

And yes, the vbox guest environment is quite confusing indeed... hard to 
sort out "real" bugs out of buggy vbox behavior (but at least the 
keyboard works now, last time I played with vbox I remember it had big 
troubles to handle keyboard keypresses...)
