... you create a debug script and then do:

> debug < %tmp%\dbscript > nul
> vol %1 > %tmp%\file2
> fc %tmp%\file1 %tmp%\file2 > nul
> if not "%errorlevel%"=="0" goto success
...
> edlin %tmp%\file2 < %tmp%\edscript > nul

Maybe obvious, but did you try using kernel 2040 instead?

You can simply replace the kernel.sys file, no need to run
SYS again as long as booting already worked okay anyway :-)
