On a pure FreeDOS machine (Pentium 133, 24MB) running: KERNEL.SYS - 1.1.35 Build 2036, 2006-05-24 COMMAND.COM - 0.84-pre XMS_Swap, 2006-05-21 HIMEM/EMM386 bundled download version 2.08
We are having trouble running a couple old networking EXE's under FreeDOS that run fine under MS-DOS 6.22. They generate "Incorrect DOS version" error messages, even if you use VERSION=6.22 (or 6.2 or 6.0 or 5.0) in CONFIG.SYS. To demonstrate the problem I have attached SHARE.EXE (with final E changed to an underscore). This is not FreeDOS SHARE but the version from CBIS Desk-To-Desk small network software. The network may support the use of FreeDOS SHARE, but when you run the next network command (NPS.EXE) in the network batch startup file, it generates the same error message, and you will not be able to troubleshoot the problem with NPS.EXE because it requires that the CBIS NetBIOS driver, redirector and SHARE all be loaded before it. So if we solve the problem with SHARE then we probably solve it for any other files generating the same error. I know that many updates have been developed since I was last current a couple months ago. Perhaps one of these will solve the problem. I hope one of you will recognize the issue right away! --John Hupp ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Using Tomcat but need to do more?
