Hi Michael,
Okay, if you've been following the VDS bouncing ball, be aware there is
now a new EMM386 test release, called emmchimp.zip at
ftp.devoresoftware.com/downloads/emm386 which does fix the problem using
the VDS option of EMM386 on the original problematic HP Pavilion laptop.
The problem on the Pavillion was probably not related to the way VDS
interacts with SCSI. I don't know, does the HP have SCSI?
Anyway, I tested the "chimp" build and unfortunately I still see random
problems using SCSI with VDS enabled. Note that I did not load any ASPI
drivers, this is pure INT13.
1. FDISK /INFO
One minute it says there's "no fixed drives", then the next it finds one
fixed drive instead of two, but claims it's not been partitioned.
2. FDISK /STATUS
Finds both hard drives but claims they are 8Gb instead of 36Gb
3. LBACACHE
Only finds one drive instead of two - hard to tell if geometry is mapped
correctly.
I then rebooted without VDS and everything worked correctly.
I then rebooted with VDS again, and everything was messed up.
Thing is, I have no idea what VDS is for, and don't know if I'd ever
need it!
