Eric,
I forgot to tell you that, even when my AWE64 does not work (i.e.: synth) under FreeDOS, it does very well under MS-DOS. Of course, no driver loaded in any of them, only the initialization PnP program. Another problem I've had in FreeDOS is that for some reason, my old QuickBASIC does not load the BAS files. It says that format is incorrect. I think that is because of the binary format QuickBASIC uses (it varies when memory administration does).
About the DPMI, thank you very much. I have already downloaded DJGPP, but I think I will need some help, because it looks complicated. In fact, I think that low level is good too. What I originally wanted to do is access protected mode without any VCPI, DPMI or anything, just plain, as if it was an OS... but then I read a little about it and I felt... uhmm... "fear".
Precisely, some minutes before I recieved your letter I was poking on a site of a Czec guy who has made his own VBE under DJGPP.... or at least he claims so. The site is at http://www.volny.cz/rayer/programm/programe.htm I hope it's useful to you.
I have been poking in some games to "steal" the VBE from them, but I was partially unsucessful. That is, the driver didn't work the way I expected and plus, it is a trial version when I want to run it.
OK. I think I will have to study the DJGPP I download it once and for all. Uh.... one more question....
I read the bases of the GPL, but I'm not sure I understood very well... see, my main language is Spanish, not English, I'm from Argentina.
To make my software cling to the GNU GPL, all I have to do is just express it in the text of my program? Don't I even have to register it anywhere? How is it? I've never publish my work. I'd like to start.
Lucas
