I subscribe to a list that runs Mailman ver 2.0.7 (which is an earlier version) and it strips out both HTML and any binaries. See http://lists.herald.co.uk/mailman/listinfo/lois-bujold for the example. The webmistress of the site would probably be willing to help out, if asked.
