        Hi guys,

Can anyone explain to me why the Freedombox project is targeting plug
servers on home networks instead of smart devices in our pockets?

The jurisdiction in your pocket is different from the jurisdiction in your home.

"Your data, at home, in your house, where they have to come and get it,
facing whatever the legal restrictions are, if any, in your society about what
goes on inside the precincts of the home."

I'm sure there's a very good reason for this, but I got into a
discussion recently and realised I didn't have a proper explanation for this.
People's lives are increasingly integrated with smart devices in their pocket
and these devices are now used by companies to track and profile everything we
do and say - even our geographical movements. What is the reason for targeting
plug servers instead of, say, common smart phones that many people possess?
These devices are increasingly powerful computers. I suppose the quickest path
would be to take the existing open source Android code and build on top of that
- but I realise that would exclude all of those lovely Debian packages. But
there are mobile/ARM projects already out there in the Debian world are there
not?

In a nutshell, I was just wondering whether a secure, private server
in my pocket that protects my privacy whilst I communicate would be more in
keeping with current trends than a server to plugin and access from home?

Probably I am missing something here - explanations welcomed!
