Since I came in late in this, I need to know what kind of controller

I plan to backport ATA from 6.0 to 5-stable when it has settled, so
6.0 is the one and only (pre)release to test with and get back to me
with the result.
They have been talking about SII and Intel ICH6 chips. And a few
have
stated that they are having problems with the 6.0-Beta releases with
these chips.
What, I'm chopped liver? :^> I'm getting these errors with a
standard, _very_
not "state of the art", Via KT266A/8235 chipset. PATA WDC 800
drive. All very standard stuff for a desktop. Was running WinXP
without a
problem for quite some time. Generic kernel. In fact when I tried
to install 5.4
(and 5.4-SNAP from 5 July & 9 July), it errored out as soon as the
install kernel
tried to write to the disk. FS's do not work when you can't write
the superblocks
out... Oh yeah, writing the disklabel also generated the same error.
So it's not just the SATA raid type chipsets. It's plain vanilla ATA
controllers, also.
As I said I need reports on 6.0, the ATA driver as is in 5.4 is not
supported by me unless you use the ATA mkIII patches..
