That's not what he was saying at all. If I may, it seemed to me
that John's point was that the /etc/defaults system works best for the
majority of our users, and might even have some advantages for you if you
chose to give it a try.
Your point is that you want to do what you want to do, come hell
or high water. That's fine, the fact that you _can_ do that at all is what
makes freebsd non-microsoft-y.
