I forgot to mention I've explicitly disabled ip6 link-local addresses on my machine, via the following sysctl: net.inet6.ip6.auto_linklocal: 0 ifconfig doesn't display 'tunnel' for your GRE interfaces, this is the problem I'm talking about. Not being able to see the addresses used in the encapsulating IP header is a bug.
