The sensible thing to do is to be putting a thumb drive on your machine and backing up the /var/db/pkg after updating. An e-mailed list of any sort would be a last resort and having it fairly compact is a compromise, since you do have the thumb drive to fall back on right? > rebuilding ports after a lost /var/db/pkg.
