All known issues have been fixed and upstreamed however there's currently no support for building both shared and static libraries simultaneously in upstream code. The quick 'n dirty hack is to add BUILD_SHARED_LIBS to https://cgit.freebsd.org/ports/tree/textproc/libxml2/Makefile#n29 which will generate a static library in the work dir.
