Hi,
Back in January we switched to CMake as we've been "maintaining" local GNU
Autotools patches for years and no one has offered to upstream or maintain our
local patches. All known issues have been fixed and upstreamed however there's
currently no support for building both shared and static libraries
simultaneously in upstream code.
The quick 'n dirty hack is to add BUILD_SHARED_LIBS to
https://cgit.freebsd.org/ports/tree/textproc/libxml2/Makefile#n29 which will
generate a static library in the work dir.
Currently it's not high priority and patches are welcome (please submit
upstream).
