[…] The Soekris, AFAIK, is an embedded platform. It doesn't surprise me the least that it's not good at I/O. That's the reason why I suggested the HP. At least, it does decent I/O, if you want to believe reports. I would really also recommend to separate the router and fileserver-functionality.
