Apparently mrsasutil is issuing a request which maps to something either the driver or controller doesn't like, which triggers the kernel messages. It may be interesting to note that the output of "mrsasutil show volumes" triggers one "mrsas0: IOCTL command 0xc1045166 is not handled" kernel message and then four "There is no Controller number X" kernel messages, while the truss output (in the second attachment) shows all five returning "ERR#2 'No such file or directory'" to mrsasutil. Despite these error returns, mrsasutil is displaying the correct information about the volumes.
