Right. I tried the posted instructions in vmware player 14, using both guided
and manual partitioning, and using both freebsd-update and just copying /boot.
In all cases, the loader could find the disk just fine. I used the -disc1 isos
from the ftp server.

It's difficult for me to do live testing on the affected host at the moment. I
hope the others posting here can reproduce this. More detailed steps (and
perhaps a confirmation from the person who posted them) would be helpful.
