See this is what I don't understand. In the 7 years I used Turbo Pascal professionally, I don't remember ever having to allocate or free memory: I just declared variables. This was one of the big advantages of Turbo Pascal over C. If these hypothetical Pascal newbies are sophisticated enough to write something like a server that busts off chunks of RAM for every user, they're familiar with allocation and freeing.
