let me try to make it clear.
1) branding is important in the same sense that a stab of approval is important or the CE logo is important in EU. It must be unique it must be easily recognizable.

Hm. Clearly, that means not important at all for me:

I cannot recall ever having looked at the CE logo. In fact, until 30 seconds ago, I did not even know what it stands for.

At least I've learned that then :)
