No you don't have to start a POC in the trunk. In fact I wouldn't recommend
it. But if you did it in your whiteboard area in the Apache svn we could
watch it develop. Some others may want to contribute to the POC or offer
suggestions or just watch and learn from it. Of course, you're free to do
whatever you want. There's no real requirement here, except that official
code gets checked in here. But the better thing for the community IMO would
be for you to do the work in your whiteboard or a branch in svn and post
occasionally to the list about where you are with it so others can be
involved.
