I do not discourage use of tables all together. However, they must be laid out and structured correctly for SEO spiders to focus on main content. What you have used is a table just for NAV and that is absolutely OK. Even we have used tables in our prototypes if you have noticed. HTML5 and CSS3 specs allow for CSS based column layout, just so that you could place your important content closer to the beginning of the page and not worry about content ordering. If we feel, SEO is not a big deal for us, we should use what is easy.
