This is mostly because the earlier versions of the app used a different signing certificate. When we got serious about the release, we created a new certificate which we should stick to forever. Christopher probably had installed one of the first versions which was signed with the older signing certificate. Which is why that version had to be uninstalled first. Once a version with the new (correct) certificate is installed, there is no need to uninstall it before upgrading. As more features are added, the various languages go out of sync. Waiting for all of them to be updated would take quite some time.
