The requirement of having to uninstall a previous version is mentioned in
the RELEASE_NOTES document for this release.

This is mostly because the earlier versions of the app used a different
signing certificate. When we got serious about the release, we created a
new certificate which we should stick to forever.

Christopher probably had installed one of the first versions which was
signed with the older signing certificate. Which is why that version had
to be uninstalled first.

Once a version with the new (correct) certificate is installed, there is no
need to uninstall it before upgrading. Also, the auto-update mechanism
would kick in as well.

I am looking for suggestions on how to improve this process. As more
features are added, the various languages go out of sync. Waiting for all
of them to be updated would take quite some time. It depends on the
volunteers who provided the original translations and how much bandwidth
they have available to fix these issues.

Not for all of the things mentioned above.
